Happy Halloween!

Shirt: Talbot's
Vest: Loft
Skirt: Anthro
Tights: Macy's
Hairclip: Anthro
Shoes: New! From DSW! Yay new shoes!

This is actually what I wore today versus a backlogged outfit, woah. I tried to be as festive as I could for work today, although when I saw a bunch of ladies in the building in costumes I really regretted not wearing my fairy wings to work. Oh well. At least I got to wear them tonight.

Okay, so I am recovered from my sickness, and I had one of the best Halloweens ever. A bunch of my friends came over for an awesome evening of scary (and not so scary) movies, delicious food, and fun. I made appetizers (tomato basil bruschetta and bacon-wrapped dates) and one of the most delicious caramel apple pies I have ever tasted. Witness:

Yeah, you should come over to my house to sample this.

I'm not really one for crazy partying on Halloween (or any other time), but for me this was pretty much the perfect way to spend an evening. I have a bit of a domestic streak and love making food for people and having guests, so it was exactly what I wanted. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. And I hope all my readers had a great Halloween, too!

An atypical Halloween

Hi everyone! How is your Halloween weekend so far? Mine has been fairly low key, especially today. I'm still recovering from being sick, so I've been taking it pretty easy, although I did manage to run three miles today (running + congestion = eww, by the way). I'm currently watching people on TV buy wedding dresses and being cuddled by cats, and later I'm planning to bake something delicious of currently-unidentified specifics. I'm a little bummed to miss out on more traditional Halloween festivities, but I'll try to be a little more in the holiday spirit tomorrow.

Here is a cozy, casual outfit from last week to reflect what is going on for me today:

Nothing Clever

Sorry for my brief absence, guys. I've been pretty sick this week (still, sigh) and just haven't felt like posting. Or doing anything but sleeping. I'm not completely better today, but I have a few minutes before I have to run to work and decided that I was going to finally get off my butt and post an outfit, even if I couldn't come up with anything clever to say. Well, I definitely don't have anything clever to say, but here's the outfit anyway:

Sale triumphs of the UO kind

Today's outfit is yet another triumphant sale story, this time brought to you by Urban Outfitters. A few weekends ago, my friends and I were shopping together, and I found this adorable printed version of the solid UO skirts that I acquired last summer and subsequently wore to death. The best part? It was marked down to five dollars. Yep, that's right. $5. I guess nobody else was interested in... a bright orange skirt with navy and pink flowers on it. But did that stop me? Oh no. That's a selling feature, people. A selling feature.

Also, one day I will stop wearing the Claudine Tee with everything. And by "one day," I mean "probably never."

Rainy days and Mondays

Hi everybody! My weekend didn't go quite as planned because I got sick and had to cancel a lot of my busy schedule. Sigh. I managed to make the best of it and had a good time with the things I did feel up to doing, though (take a wild guess; it involved big roller coasters and JCrew sales). Unfortunately, the advent of Sunday night means the end of another weekend. I'm really not looking forward to Monday morning, since the prospect of facing a work day with a cold seriously does not thrill me. I thought I'd post an old outfit from an actual rainy day, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Monday. I wasn't super happy with this outfit, and my hair is an olive-oil-induced disaster area, but I'll say I'm practicing my Cindy Lou Who impersonation and call it good.

Shirt: Anthro
Skirt: ModCloth
Boots: Kamik from Amazon
Socks: Francesca's

Yawn. I need to catch up on my sleep and say goodnight, y'all. (Catch up? Seriously? I've only been sleeping 80% of this weekend away.) Hope you stay well and have a survivable Monday!

Ease of familiarity

Just a quick post of an older outfit today before I run to work. It's so nice to be able to get back into my usual dressing routine of "dress + tights + cardigan." I got really attached to it last fall and winter, and with the advent of summer a few months ago, I was a little lost when it comes to dressing work-appropriate during my favorite season. Luckily, my 'uniform' is now acceptable for the weather, so I've had a much better relationship with my closet in the past few weeks. Did I mention that these are awesome boots? Because they are.

Shamelessly all Anthro: Speckled Ink Dress, cardigan I-don't-remember-but-I-found-for-$20-yay, Twinkle Headband, Luminous Boots, Donegal Tights

Happy Friday, everybody! I've got an insanely packed weekend, especially Saturday, so I'm not sure I'll have time to post, but I hope you have a good one.

Silliness

Okay, so this outfit is definitely not my usual and definitely not a work outfit, and I definitely think it's more than a little weird, but I'm showing you anyway. You can blame my trip to the JCrew warehouse sale for its existence. A week or two, I went to the second sale in my fragile beginning-fashionista life with a coworker and picked up a lot of goodies. I was really excited about them and couldn't wait to try everything on, so I came up with, well, this:

Cardigan and shorts: JCrew warehouse
Top: Anthro (I do not know the name, but my mom sent it to me as a Halloween gift :D)
Socks: Francesca's
Boots: Grandma

I also, um, maybe bought a hat at the JCrew sale. I do not wear has. I don't think they look right on me, and I question my ability to pull them off. But heck, I love this hat, and it was $8, and accordingly I am just gonna grit my teeth and show you:

It's kind of ridiculous. I love it.

Ever been to a JCrew warehouse sale? I can say with confidence that it is utter craaa-ziness, but if you have a lot of endurance and patience, you can find some really great stuff.

Let's try this headband thing again....

Good morning! Are any Mondays "good" mornings? No? Oh well. I hope you're having a decent one, anyway.

Here's an outfit from last week in which I gathered up the courage to revisit my Taylor-Swift-style forehead headband look. I took the great advice of a reader and tried it over my ears (whodathunk?), and I think it worked out much better. And even if it didn't, I was a happy (hopefully work appropriate) hippie that day. I also haven't worn this dress in forever. For shame. I never thought to put it with this blue cardigan because it seemed a bit matchy, and overall I feel like this is a better spring look, but hopefully I'll figure out a way to make this dress work for fall soon. For better or for worse, I've always felt like white tights looked adorable with this dress -- I was wearing these tights when I originally tried it on and was sold.

Sheepish return

Alright, so I admit it: I've been a bad blogger. I'm sorry for my unplanned absence, everyone. Life's been a little busy in this cute scientist world, but I'm hoping to get back on track with a casual Friday outfit (which was not actually worn on a Friday, but who's counting?).

Anthro Tempting Trellis Cardigan, Molded and Melded Tee
Necklace gifted from Mom
Pants very, very old and stolen from sister. Sorry, sister.

"Oh wow, there's a GIANT spider on my porch" face.

I have a pretty important meeting this morning and also had to do a presentation on Monday of this week, so I've had a lot to do around the lab. I'm really looking forward to this weekend and already have a lot of fun things planned. On the list so far is a festival downtown and the state fair. So excited! I hope your weekends are looking just as promising as mine! I'm off to (gulp) get ready for my meeting.

Hello to old favorites

Okay, I was serious about "goodbye, summer" because fall has sure been out in full force this week! I'm really excited to break out my cozy cardigan collection and get re-acquainted with my usual fall uniform of "dress or skirt + tights + cardigan." I have so many cardigans that I love, but this one from the JCrew warehouse sale is one of my favorites. It's so soft, and I love the color. I wasn't sure I'd be able to make outfits with it when I bought it, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance because I find it goes with everything. This is also the first time this lovely skirt has seen the light of day since the spring.

Please excuse the picture quality -- the early darkness got ahead of me, and I took my pictures too late this evening!

Also um, yeah, I'm wearing these boots again. Did I mention they go with approximately 9001 more things than I thought they would?

Goodbye, summer

Summer sure takes a long time to depart from the south. I think we just might have seen the last of it, but I took advantage of a random day in the 80s last week to break out a summer dress and sandals one last time. I'll totally be winterizing this dress so I can continue to wear it, but I think this is probably the end of my open-toed shoes days for the time being.

Dress: Anthro Botanical Stroll
Cardigan: Target
Shoes: b.o.c. Cates
Hair clip: Anthro

Goodbye, summer! It's been a great one, full of new experiences, challenges, drama, self-reflection, life changes, and the best kids on the best swim team a coach could ask for. I'm sad to see my favorite season go, but I'm looking forward to what fall can bring me. I always feel a great sense of change and possibility with the advent of fall weather. This is everyone's chance to be a new person and do big, new, scary things. I'm going to take advantage of it.

New dress debut

You've already seen this 'new' dress from Anthro in 2009, but this outfit was the first time I wore it out. I had planned to wear it to an upcoming fancy dinner since the day I bought it, and it was perfect for an evening at the Melting Pot with a coworker. How delicious is the Melting Pot? And how delicious is the back of this dress? I don't know what possessed me to pass it up the first time around, but I'm glad I picked it up when I did. Better late than never!

Two something elses making their fall debut are my much-loved Anthro boots, which I miraculously scored for only $30. The brightness of these shoes apparently put a lot of people off, but not me! I've already worn the heck out of them, and colder weather hasn't even been here a week. I didn't realize how perfect they were with this dress until I tried them, but um. Perfect.
